Welcome to Young Adulting Reviews Fiction Program!

We’re excited to announce something new at Young Adulting Review!

While you’ve historically known us as a home for reviews, interviews, and thoughtful criticism about children’s and YA literature, we’re thrilled to share that we’re expanding our scope to include short fiction.

As many in the #kidlit community know, there are very few places to publish or read short-form fiction for children, teens, and young adults; stories that entertain, challenge, and reflect the diverse experiences of young readers today. That’s why we’re launching a new short fiction program dedicated to celebrating creative storytelling for and about young people.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome original short fiction up to 3,000 words written for:

  • Children (ages 6–12)
  • Teens and Young Adults (ages 13–18)

We’re open to all genres—realistic, speculative, fantasy, mystery, humour, adventure, or anything that captures young imaginations. We’re especially excited to receive stories that:

  • Center diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences;
  • Reflect the complexities and joys of growing up;
  • Experiment with form or style while remaining accessible to young readers; and
  • Offer emotional honesty, curiosity, and heart.

Our Mission

At Young Adulting Review, we believe that children’s and YA literature deserves the same critical attention and creative respect as literary fiction. This new fiction section bridges that gap—offering a vibrant, inclusive platform for new and emerging writers to share their stories with an engaged readership.

We aim to spotlight voices that have been historically underrepresented in publishing, and to create a community where readers, writers, and critics come together to celebrate storytelling that matters.

Submission Guidelines

  • Length: Up to 3,000 words
  • Audience: Children, teens, or young adults
  • Genre: Open to any genre
  • Format: Submit as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file, double-spaced, 12pt font
  • Simultaneous submissions: Welcome, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere
