First Page Feature

Young Adulting Review was founded in 2019 at the UBC School of Creative Writing as a place for thoughtful, serious discussion of books for children and young adults. Over the last four years, we’ve published hundreds of reviews, author interviews, and news breakdowns, and have brought countless new critical voices to the Canadian children’s literature scene. Our reviews have been read and shared by authors and readers around the world, and our site draws thousands of visitors every year.

Now entering our fifth year, Young Adulting Review is expanding our scope. We noticed a gap in the publishing sphere: While there are many places to submit and publish short literary fiction online, very few such places exist for writers of short fiction for children and young adults to publicize their work.

That’s why Young Adulting Review is thrilled to announce the First Page Feature!

The First Page Feature is a chance for emerging writers to feature the first page of their works-in-progress (ranging from Middle Grade to New Adult) in our monthly newsletter. Getting featured includes the opportunity for emerging writers to publicize themselves and their work as well as answer three interview questions to share their creative process and writing journey.

Bring us your best first pages for children and young adults: your magic and whimsy, your heartbreak and your joy. We can’t wait to go on this journey with you.

Read our First Page Feature Submission Guidelines here.

After you’ve read the submission guidelines and you’re ready to submit, please submit your story here.

Submissions are currently open!

At this time, we do not offer paid compensation for first pages. Please note that we are only accepting submissions from current UBC students and alumni.
